Anera and GIZ Celebrate Youth Employment in Beirut and Mount Lebanon Project Completion

July 13, 2024 | Beirut, Lebanon – Anera, in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation (BMZ), is proud to announce the successful completion of the Youth Employment in Beirut and Mount Lebanon (YEBML) project. The YEBML project, initiated to address the growing unemployment crisis among Lebanese youth, provided comprehensive training programs in the healthcare and hospitality sectors. Over the course of this initiative, 340 youth enrolled. Through partnerships with top hospitals in Lebanon, Anera has facilitated practical training and job placements, hence equipping the participants with vital skills and knowledge, enhancing their employability in Lebanon's challenging job market.

On June 13th, Anera and GIZ celebrated the closing of the successful YEBML project through a graduation ceremony for the nursing training program students, held at the French Hospital of the Levant. The event was attended by representatives from GIZ and Anera, staff from the participating hospitals, and the graduating trainees. The event underscored the importance of skilled healthcare professionals in Lebanon and the success of the YEBML project in contributing to this critical sector.

“We are proud to have partnered with GIZ on the Youth Employment in Beirut and Mount Lebanon project,” said Samar El Yassir, the Lebanon country director at Anera. “By leveraging our combined expertise, we succeeded at creating a sustainable impact on the lives of young adults, fostering economic growth and social progress in Lebanon.”

One of the key achievements of the YEBML project is its impressive employment rate. To date, 305 participants have secured employment in their respective fields (148 women and 25 people with disabilities), with several trainees awaiting employment after completing the interviews, showcasing the effectiveness of the training programs and the dedication of both the participants and the supporting institutions. Additionally, the close collaboration with private sector companies and their involvement in all stages of the training had a positive impact on youth skill development and employment rates.

Anera extends its heartfelt thanks to Germany for their financial support. Additionally, Anera expresses its gratitude to the participating hospitals and all individuals and organizations who contributed to the success of this project. Their dedication and support have made a lasting impact on the lives of Lebanese youth.
