Anera Partners with Foundation S – The Sanofi Collective to Ensure Health and Economic Relief
Amidst Lebanon's ongoing economic crisis and escalating security concerns, Anera is proud to announce a significant medical donation in collaboration with Foundation S, the Sanofi Collective.
This shipment in Lebanon contains over 100,000 units of anticoagulant medications that are essential to preventing the coagulation of blood in patients with reduced physical activity, such as those recovering from surgery or undergoing dialysis. Without anticoagulation medication, patients are at risk of life-threatening conditions like deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
While this partnership is new to Lebanon, Foundation S – the Sanofi Collective has been a donor with Anera for years. This donation of medical aid has a significant impact at a time when access to crucial medications is limited by financial constraints.
"By administering anticoagulants preemptively, healthcare providers mitigate the grave risk of thrombotic events."
Antoine Geagea, doctor and director of Bcharri Governmental Hospital, outlines the life-saving importance of anticoagulation medicine in medical and surgical interventions.
“Without the diligent application of anticoagulation protocols,” he emphasizes, “individuals undergoing various medical procedures face the ominous prospect of developing blood clots and potentially fatal consequences.
"By administering anticoagulants preemptively, healthcare providers mitigate the grave risk of thrombotic events.”
Ali Akkoum, head nurse in the dialysis department at Jezzine Governmental Hospital, underscores the versatility of anticoagulant medicttions for dialysis patients.
“In most cases,” he says, “unless we have bleeding, it’s necessary to give patients anticoagulants when they’re undergoing dialysis treatment.
"If no anticoagulants are given, we will face problems with the filter and lines being blocked. We then need to change the lines and sometimes even stop the session."
"This medication is given to patients for free and removes the economic burden of those who need treatment up to three times per week.”
Limage Afif, head of the dialysis department at Jezzine Governmental Hospital, provides an insight into the social impact of FOUNDATION S – The Sanofi Collective’s donation on patient care. Talking about the hospital, the physician shares how,
“We have nine dialysis patients currently receiving treatment, even despite our rural location. We have managed their needs and continued providing treatment throughout the economic crisis without reducing any patient’s sessions. But still, we have sometimes had to resort to using lower-quality filters.”
"Despite our rural location, we have managed [our patients'] needs and continued providing treatment throughout the economic crisis without reducing any patient’s sessions."
In these circumstances, this medical donation helps make it easier for patients to access their care.
“The medication is working well,” Afif describes, "No clots and no excessive bleeding during treatment. In addition, this medication is given to patients for free and removes the economic burden of those who need treatment up to three times per week."
Anera's partnership with Foundation S – the Sanofi Collective not only addresses the immediate medical needs of patients but also provides crucial support for healthcare institutions grappling with economic challenges.
By providing essential medications like enoxaparin to patients regardless of financial barriers, we uphold our and Foundation S – the Sanofi Collective's commitment to ensuring access to quality healthcare for all.
This donation stands as a testament to the power of collaboration in overcoming adversity to foster health and resilience within communities.
Together, we continue to make a tangible difference in the lives of those most in need.
