Sheep cheese provides income in rural Palestine
Outside of urban Qalqilya, Naiima tends to her flock of sheep. She has lived in Qalqilya Governorate for 50 years, where raising sheep is quite common. Naiima grew up helping her father with the family’s sheep and became fond of them.
Anera has provided her three sheep. With the sheep milk she will be able to produce about 66 lbs (30 kg) of cheese every month, which she can sell for about $200. Her flock will also grow, expanding her earnings. In fact, one of her sheep just delivered a baby.

Some 40 miles east of Qalqilya, in the mountains of Qabalan in the Nablus Governorate, Sanaa is also making her own homemade cheese for sale with the milk from sheep recently provided by Anera.

Anera’s Women Can program is generously funded by Islamic Relief USA. The views expressed herein are those of Anera and shall not, in any way whatsoever, be construed to reflect the official opinion of Islamic Relief USA, its Islamic Relief affiliates, or its donors.
