An Americares donation provides vital help to pregnant women in Lebanon, ensuring every child has a chance for a healthy start in life
Amid Lebanon's tough times, Anera and Americares have stepped up to offer a helping hand to expecting mothers across Lebanon. A recent Americares donation includes prenatal vitamins as well as medical supplies and reading glasses. These items will make a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.
Due to the economic crisis in Lebanon, the country’s public healthcare system is attracting growing numbers of patients for treatment. Mariana Kharram, a pharmacist at Rafik Hariri University PHC Center, notes that there has been a significant increase in patients seeking care, especially for chronic illnesses.
"More and more people are turning to public healthcare as their best option."
"With Lebanon's ongoing crisis,” Mariana says, “more and more people are turning to public healthcare as their best option.” The public healthcare system provides care to people free of cost and no matter their background.
With prices skyrocketing in local pharmacies, many women simply can't afford prenatal vitamins now.
“Every pregnant woman needs these vitamins," Mariana emphasizes.
For Noor, a 20-year-old Lebanese woman, the support she's received from the Americares donation has come at a perfect time.
“I'm eight months pregnant, and I'm thrilled!" she says.
Noor knows firsthand the importance of prenatal vitamins. "During my last pregnancy, I had some complications that could have been solved if I had taken prenatal vitamins," she recalls. Thanks to the vitamins provided by Anera and Americares, however, Noor's current pregnancy is going smoothly and she feels more energetic than ever.
Noor also mentions how these vitamins have become staggeringly expensive, even triggering fraud.
“The prices of multivitamins in Lebanon have skyrocketed,” she says, “and can fetch prices upwards of a million liras per pack."
"[Multivitamins] can fetch prices upwards of a million liras per pack."
The donation of more than 4,000 bottles of prenatal vitamins from Americares is a significant help for pregnant women in Lebanon. In addition to the vitamins, the shipment also includes medical supplies for hospitals and over 56,000 reading glasses for patients.
From bustling hospitals to tiny dispensaries, the impact of this donation is felt by patients far and wide. It's not just about providing healthcare; it's about showing compassion and support to those who need it most.
